Communications Workshop Speaker
Using the techniques I learned and developed as a Blue Man and as a professional performer, I devised a workshop for young people to develop and improve their communications skills.
I choose the content carefully and specifically so that the curriculum not only apply to acting but also to other facets of the students’ education and life. The three main themes are collaboration, storytelling, formulating an argument, and focus.
I conducted a workshop with Davenport Creative Arts Academy students on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at the River Center in downtown Davenport, Iowa.
I consulted with educators and experts on the structure and content of this workshop. These learnings can be applied to other curriculums and are proven to be helpful in schools.
Why work with Dan?
The exercises and activities in the workshop are based on the skills I have developed to portray the Blue Man character on stage. Communication is one of the fundamental pieces of that character and although the workshop itself is centred around performance
on stage, the skills it covers can be applied to many areas of education or personal development.
What will you learn?
Use performance to improve proficiency in 3 key areas of communication that can also be applied more broadly across other parts of a curriculum. These areas are:
The ability to work as part of a team; not only to know how to work with other people but to allow other people to work with you.
Support; realizing that supporting fellow collaborators is essential the development of any idea.
